Presbyterian Ladies College (Perth) bring Dartfish software to
all students!

2007 is a very exciting time at PLC, Perth for the students. Over the next 3 years the
executive have decided that Dartfish Video software brings so much value to teaching
and learning, and they have signed a deal allowing the Connect software
to be imaged on all the girls lap top computers. PLC a top independent school has IT
firmly embedded within the curriculum as every girl has the latest Apple Mac computer
which can now run Windows and ensures compatibility with Dartfish. Coupled with this
each PE teacher will have the Pro Suite edition of the software on their laptops allowing
unique instant visual feedback and detailed video analysis.
Chantelle James the Head of Physical Education at the college first discovered Dartfish
through her Softball commitments, and after trialling the software for a year she was
convinced of the massive impact it would have on the teaching and learning at the
college.
‘’ It’s amazing how girls who usually floundered in PE, made such progress in such a
short period of time’’ she said. ‘’Visual feedback is the dominant pathway for about 65%
of learners and accelerates learning in 100%’’
Chantelle decided on the Pro Suite for teachers, as she wanted staff in the department to
link key theory components with the practical performances from lessons and other
sporting situations.
‘’Linking the analysis component of PE to the personal images of the girls really helped
them understand the outcomes we were trying to achieve’’ she said.
‘’ We decided that the students would benefit sufficiently from having the Connect
software allowing them to load their video clips into the Analyser and build personal
portfolios with detailed analysis and annotation.’’
After much discussion, it was decided that the best way forward for both parties was an
annual licence agreement over the next 3 years.
‘’…that way it is an affordable solution competitive with Adobe, and allows us to keep
up to date with any updates in the software’’ Brett Clarke, Head of Information
Technology said.
Presbyterian Ladies College has a part in the bargain to play too. They are now agents for
the Dartfish software and will be running some training courses for the teachers in
Western Australia to ensure teaching staff at other schools do not get left behind with this
revolutionary progress being made in teaching and learning.
Education Consultant Mark Redrup said’’ I have worked with Dartfish software for the
past 3 years, and I am excited at the huge impact this project will have on the progress
these students will make in Physical Education and school Sport.’’
‘’… I am sure the other schools in WA will follow this lead by PLC, as they will want to
keep up with the progress that is currently being made in Physical education’’
The long term intentions of PLC are to integrate the software into all curriculum areas
whether it be English, Science, Debating or Industrial Arts!!
