Crusaders Choose Dartfish
Jamie Hamilton (2005) outlines how rugby coaching program’s benefit from Dartfish performance analysis in 5 ways:
> Scouting opposition plays and performance
Prior to any game, we will analyse a number of games
from the opposition to identify key patterns of play,
danger players, tactics adopted and the weaknesses
associated with their performance. This helps us plan our
strategies and plays against the opposition.
> Real-time feedback
During each competitive game, we will analyse the key
events that we have time to tag for 2 major reasons – to
conform any previous scouting analysis on plays, line outs,
scrums etc. and to prepare the video for more detailed later
analysis.
> Individual player analysis and feedback
Each player is provided with one to one feedback on their
performance against the team standards. This information
is further collated to provide the evidence base by which
we structure and develop the specific skill, technical and /
or physical training required for that individual player.
> Skill development
We use the Dartfish TeamPro to provide real time training
feedback for specific skill related activities, e.g. line out
throwing for the hooker, scrummaging for the props, place
kicking, kicking from the hand. We will also collate and
model these skills against some of the world’s leading
players in those positions, where appropriate, and provide
comparative video and data to assist the players in their
learning and development.
> Detailed post event analysis
A more detailed analysis is carried out to collate individual
player profiles and a more detailed tactical analysis
on our performance. This analysis will be fed into a much
bigger team profile over time to monitor our development,
success in our coaching interventions.
“ We have found Dartfish ideal and very user friendly in identifying technical issues in individual players tackle technique, passing and kicking skills”
“The live delay and pre roll of Dartfish has taken our live match analysis, skill work and physical preparation to another level, it provides us with important information in achieving best practices for rugby”
Jamie Hamilton, Performance Analyst, Crusaders.
